Make Best Out of Old CDs With These Amazing Ideas

When the memory card, pen drivers and internal memories are taking over the world. The Compact disk aka CDs are getting left behind. Make sure you make an appropriate use of these worn out CDs that will make them more productive than helping in collecting dusts in drawer.

1.Mini disco ball

Materials required

  • Thermocol ball
  • Old CD
  • Scissors
  • Glue
  • String

Procedure

  • You can buy a thermocol ball from art stores or make one of desired shape by sticking some thermocol together and cut into a shape of sphere. Use sand paper to make it smooth.
  • Take a CD and cut it into small square bits.
  • Glue the bits on the thermocol ball similar to disco ball.
  • Poke a hole in the ball, insert a sting in it and drop some glue in it to help it stay together.
  • Hang these mini disco ball anywhere you like in your room or at your party.

2.Fridge magnet

Material required

  • Old CD
  • Old piece of cloth
  • Toy eyes
  • Ribbon
  • Spiral notepad
  • Pen
  • Magnet
  • Glue

Procedure

  • Take an old CD and cover one side of it with a cloth and glue its edges on the other side of the CD use some folded cloth to make ears.
  • Stick a magnet on the other side of the CD and glue toy eyes on the side covered with cloth.
  • Stick a triangular paper below the eyes to resemble the beak.
  • Insert two ribbon in a spiral notepad and its end on the CD. Use the space between the notepad and the CD as a hanger for a pen.
  • Now you can stick this on your fridge and making shopping list has never been easier.

Procedure

  • Cut an old CD into small pieces.
  • Stick the bits unto the upper part of the collar of a shirt in a mosaic way.
  • There you have your old shirt with a new shimmer.

4.Coaster

Materials required

  • Old CD
  • String
  • Glue

Procedure

  • Take an old CD and line it with jute string to make it absorbent.
  • Glue it all together.
  • There you have a brand new coaster out of an old CD.

5.Organiser pockets

Materials required

  • Old CDs
  • Old clothes
  • Ribbon
  • Wooden sticks
  • Glue
  • Scissors

Procedure

  • Take old CDs and cover its one side with clothes. Glue the edges of the clothes on the other side of the CD.
  • Cut some clothes into semi-circle shape and stick it on the CDs with one side open just like pockets. Line them with ribbon.
  • Take wooden sticks to make a frame for the CDs and stick the CDs on it.
  • Tie a string on it that will help you hang it.
  • Now you have many pockets to keep your trinkets and keys on place.

6.Pen stand

Materials required

  • Old CDs
  • Hot glue
  • Scissors

Procedure

  • Take a CD that will act as the base.
  • Cut two CDs from one side to make smooth surface that will be easier to stick. Glue it vertically on the base.
  • Cut two more CDs from one side to make it easier to stick them and from the sides so that the don’t disturb the CDs already glued. Glue these two on the base too.
  • Take the CDs strips cut off from the sides and stick it on the other CDs so that they look like they are continuing the CDs glued on the either side.
  • There you have a glossy and nerdy pen stand for yourself.

7.CD curtain

Materials required

  • Old CDs
    Hole puncher
    Paper clips

Procedure

  • Take some CDs and punch holes on it. At opposite direction.
  • Clip two CDs together using paper clips. Make as big a curtain you like by this process and hang it on windows.
  • And you have a quirky curtains.

8.Coin bags

Materials required

  • Two CD.
  • Zipper
  • Hot glue
  • Used cloth

Procedure

  • Take two CD and cover its hole by stick a piece of cloth on it.
  • Take a zipper and stick the CDs on its either side.
  • Cover the remaining area with cloth too.
  • There you have your coin bag.

Picture frame

Materials required

  • Old CD
  • Cello tape
  • Paper clip
  • Pattered paper

Procedure

  • Take an old CD and stick cello tape on it and remove it. Repeat this process to clean it and remove all the film.
  • Stick your desired photo on it and stick paper on the other side of it.
  • Attach paper clips that will act as stand.
  • Now you have a never seen before photo frame.

9.Nail polish organiser

Materials required

  • Old CDs
  • Old toilet paper roll
  • Thermocol ball
  • Acrylic paint
  • Glue

Procedure

  • Paint a CD with paint, this will act as the base on it stick a toilet paper roll and then another CD and then another paper roll and then another CDs. Paint them and decorate them as you like it.
  • Cut the thermocol into half and use it to close the center of the CD of the top CD. Then use some more half cut thermocol ball for creating stable bases.
  • There you have a nail polish displayer and organiser.

10.CD bicycle Pen stand

Materials required

  • Old CDs
  • Popsicle stick
  • Acrylic paint
  • Glue
  • Old Pen stand

Procedure

  • Take 3 old CDs and paint them as wheel of a bicycle using acrylic colour.
  • Paint 4 popsicle sticks too.
  • Stick two CDs on a old pen stand at two sides.
  • At the point between the two CDs, on the pen stand stick two popsicle stick horizontally and little diverging up. Stick a paint popsicle stick horizontally on the end that will make the handle.
  • On the other end of the popsicle stick glue a popsicle stick vertically. At the end of this popsicle stick glue the centre of another paint CD. Glue a paper made of cone along with it to make it look like a basket.
  • Hence, you get a very quirky looking pen stand which can be useful in storing and can also make your room look ravishing.

11.CD Terrarium

Materials required

  • CDs
  • Scotch tape
  • Hot glue
  • Scissors

Procedure

  • You must cut 55 triangle of side 4.1 cm from the CD. All triangular should be equilateral.
  • Make a pentagon using five triangle. Glue it with scotch tape and later with hot glue. Make 11 pentagon in such way.
  • Join all of these together to form a terrarium.
  • And you now have a geeky looking terrarium to store your keys and money.

12.CD bowls

Materials required

  • Candle
  • Plier
  • Old CD

Procedure

  1. Using plier, heat a CD by a candle. The trick is to do it slowly so that it bends intensively.
  2. Now you can use this moulded CD as a jewellery storage, a soap dish, candle holder etc.
