Giant Tie-Dyed Snowflakes

It will be a really fun activity for your kids to learn to make snowflakes. It is a good opportunity to hone their motor skills. Take coffee filters and fold them in half, then gain in half, like about 3-4 times. Then take up a pair of scissors and start cutting shapes in the folded coffee filter. Do not ever let your small children take up sharp scissors. Be patient and go for simpler shapes if your children are very young. Now open the folds. You can either use a water soluble dye or food colouring mixed in water to colour the snowflakes. It is safer to use the food colouring in water. Now use a dropper to apply colour and watch the colour spread on the coffee filter. For better understanding of this warm snowflake DIY look up:

How to Make – Tie-Dye Snowflake

Now let us make a dyed snowflake using washable markers. First of all take a coffee filter and fold it in half. Now fold one edge to 60 degrees and fold the other edge over it. In the end of these folds we are left with 60 degrees of a triangle. Now fold this further into a half to get 30-degree vertex. Now give the outer edge a diagonal cut by first carefully measuring and marking it with a pencil or non-absorbent ink pen. Now draw fire designs all along the folded coffee filter. Cut along these designs. When you open it you get an asymmetrical snowflake. Start using green washable marker on the outer edges of the snowflake. Now use purple washable marker in the middle most cut area outer edge. Use alternatively orange red and yellow in the rest of the cut areas. After you are done with using the washable markers, spray water on the coffee filter. Use a glue stick on one side of the snowflake and paste it on a yellow sheet. Use your hand to paste it. This sticks the snowflake on as well as spreads the washable marker ink to the edges. For better understanding of this DIY look up this easy to understand tutorial video:
