Supplies You Will Need

  • Plastic drinking straws – ( 8 )
  • Sticky tape
  • A ruler
  • Pen or pencil

Directions

  • Place a ruler on a clean sheet and place your first straw close to it
    Mark 20 centimeter / 7.85 inch on the straw using pen/pencil and cut it using the scissors
  • Now, Take another straw and follow the same process but with 18 centimeters / 7.0 inch
  • Similarly follow this with all the 8 straws and the measurements are 2-2 centimeters shorter than the previous one’s
  • This part is very “ edumacational” for toddlers. Arrange all the straws in a straight line according to their sizes. ( use a ruler to make the straws have a straight edge )
  • Tape them together using a sticky tape.

DIY maracas out of water bottles

Although maracas are traditionally made out of hollowed and dried gourds, today they are more commonly found in plastic, metal and wooden form so just Raid your recycling bin for plastic bottles and gather the toilet paper rolls because we are about to make a fun music tool for your next musical dance party. Give your kids a colorful DIY maracas and you would be amazed what this simple tool can give your kid an experience of a beginning versatile musician. Explore all the maracas musical possibilities to check out what they can do. These are the steps to be followed.

Supplies You Will Need

  • Small plastic bottle approx. 15cm in height
  • Toilet paper roll ( ¾ inch )
  • Duct tape / colored papers
  • Beads / jewels / buttons ( filling for the maracas )
  • Hot glue gun
  • Glue sticks

Directions

  • Clean up and dry the plastic bottle and fill all the content inside it
  • Close it up with the cap and check for the sound if it’s perfect for the ears, then you can move on to the next steps if not check for the filling and adjust the rhythm ( for example the beans are louder pitch while the filling of rice and grains will be a bit softer in the rhythm )
  • By now you have decided with the sound of maracas and tightened the cap bottles, time to give a handle to hold this tool, Take a toilet paper roll  and make a straight cut at the end to the other
  • Wrap the decorative paper around or use the duct tape to do this step
  • Attach this to the bottle cap using a hot glue gun and ta-da! You have created a nice and fun instrument ready to play and shake, shake, shake!

Popsicle stick Harmonica | Trick Using rubber band tutorial

Remember the Last time you bought those Popsicle sticks pack and now they are somewhere on the corner, well let’s turn them into something fun and grab your child’s attention The next fun activity is a DIY Popsicle stick Harmonica. Make your very own Popsicle stick musical tool and play around some music and sway along. This is a very easy project that your kids will surely enjoy putting together which is so easy to create and assemble. Without further A-do let’s see how this is made.

Supplies You Will Need

  • Popsicle sticks ( use wide one’s ) – 2
  • Rubber Bands / Strings – 2
  • A Strip of paper
  • Toothpicks – 2
  • Scissors

Directions

  • Cut the paper strip exactly to the length of popsicle sticks, Now sandwich this in between them
  • Wrap a rubber band or string around one edge of the part.
  • Place a toothpick inside the rubber band
  • Take another toothpick and slide it at the other end of the Popsicle sticks, Cover it up with another string or rubber band. Breathe in and breathe out with this in your mouth to make amazing sounds.

PS: You can also use a tongue depressor instead of Popsicle stick

Cereal Box Guitar | DIY Musical Instrument

Music and kids is an ideal combination for some learning games and activities. Try making this Rock-a-do cereal box guitar with your kids. You cannot play with it really but can have fun miming along to your favorite songs. Get ready because we are about to rock!

Supplies You Will Need

  • Small Cereal box – 1
  • Wrapping paper tube 1
  • Piece of strings – 6 ( 30 centimeters )
  • Popsicle sticks – 3
  • Craft knife
  • Scissors
  • Glue
  • Masking tape
  • Ribbon or a String ( for making a strap )

Directions

  • Take a clean cereal box and seal the both sides using the masking tape
  • On each end of the cereal box trace the wrapping paper tube circle
  • Cut this using scissors an both the sides
  • On the main face of the cereal box, draw a large circle and cut it out
  • Thread six strings across the guitar hole, tie the knots to keep them in place
  • Slide the wrapping paper tube through the two holes on the either side of the box. (Leave most of the length poking out one side and about 2.5 centimeter edge at the other end ) This will give you something to strap your guitar to the base end
  • Use a craft knife and make three pair of slits in the tube. Push each Popsicle sticks through it evenly. ( Looks like the machine heads – the string adjusting knobs )
  • Attach a strap to the guitar and you are ready to rock! Struck the strings with some hard object to make them sound.

Plastic Bowl Tambourine | DIY musical instrument

Make a classic tambourine for your kid from the things around the home. Add a new instrument in your band and keep yourself entertained.

Supplies You Will Need

  • Ribbon
  • Hole punch
  • Bottle caps (Soda) – approx. 20
  • Paint and paintbrush
  • Two firm paper plates
  • Stickers ( optional )
  • Marker ( optional )

Directions

Paint the plates with bright color for the tambourine. Add some more colors on the soda bottle caps
Place the paper plates on the top of each other and now Punch some holes on the ends roughly six to eight times around the edge of the two plates ( Make sure they are lined up properly )
Tie the ribbons on the hole punch and add the soda bottle caps on the edges

  • Duct tape
  • Corn kernel
  • Rice
  • Small noodles
  • Paper towel roll
  • Construction paper
  • Aluminum foil

Directions

Cover the paper towel roll with duct tape from one end
Insert a long piece of aluminum foil inside it
Next, fill inside with the filling prepared about ( ¼ )
Wrap a construction paper around the paper towel roll
At last, Wrap the duct tape over the construction paper at both ends

  • Sand paper
  • Nails ( 3 * 1 ½ )
  • Hammer

Directions

  • Take the paper roll and smoothen the surface edges using a sand pape
  • Now, with the help of nails and hammer drill the holes into it for each cap
  • Attach the bottle caps to the roll.
  • That’s it! You are done making a jiggle stick!

Plastic bottle drum | Recycling Craft

Here’s the last one to add in your band.

Supplies You Will Need

  • Plastic bottle 2ltr – 2pc
  • Styrofoam balls
  • Bamboo table chop sticks
  • Iron
  • Tape
  • Scissors

Directions

  • Chop off the bottom of the 2 plastic bottles and stick them together
  • Attach the chop sticks to the Styrofoam balls to imitate drum sticks
  • Dum! Dum! It’s Ready!
