Basic Shapes – Part III

Paper quilling is a form of art that is done by cutting paper into long thin strips, then the paper strips are formed in different shapes by rolling and pinching the pieces, then adding glue to the shapes together and that will make very decorative art. Paper quilling is often used for decorating cards, gift boxes, gift bags, picture frames, or making 3D stand-alone art pieces, which will make everybody in wonder. One of the benefits of doing this is often the expansion of concentration. You can do this to calm your mind and deduct stress. Today you are going to make some of the important shapes which are required for quilling. So, follow the process, note the names, and Let’s begin!                   

Learn the Basic Shapes of Quilling

Materials:

  1. Quilling pen.
  2. Circle sizer.
  3. Quilling strips.
  4. Craft Glue.

Procedure:

Heart:

  • Take a quilling strip and a quilling pen, roll the strip into the quilling pen.
  • Pull off the coil after rolling it.
  • Take a circle sizer, put the coil into a middle shape circle and then roll it with your hands.
  • Apply glue at the end of the strip to properly secure it.
  • After getting ready with the coil, Pull the centre down and pinch one side.
  • Take the quilling pen, press it in the centre of the border side of the coil.
  • Look, it creates a Heart shape!
  • You can give some shapes to it using the quilling pen.

   Tulip:

  • Take a quilling strip and a quilling pen, roll the strip into the quilling pen.
  • Pull off the coil after rolling it.
  • Take a circle sizer, put the coil into a middle shape circle and then roll it with your hands.
  • Apply glue at the end of the strip to properly secure it.
  • After getting ready with the coil, pinch one side and pinch another side close to that. Hold both points and pinch together.
  • Look, it creates a Tulip shape!

Shark fin:

  • Take a quilling strip and a quilling pen, roll the strip into the quilling pen.
  • Pull off the coil after rolling it.
  • Take a circle sizer, put the coil into a middle shape circle and then roll it with your hands.
  • Apply glue at the end of the strip to properly attach it.
  • After getting ready with the coil, pinch both sides of it and simultaneously pinch in the middle of it.
  • It will create a Sharkfin.

C scroll:

 

  • Take a quilling strip and a quilling pen, roll the little part on the top of the strip with the quilling pen.
  • Release the strip.
  • Take the other opposite side of it and roll towards the previously rolled quill. Make it look like the alphabet ‘C’.
  • This will create a C scroll.

Heart scroll:

  • Take a quilling strip, fold it into half from the middle.
  • Take a quilling pen, roll one side of the quilling strip and release it before reaching the midpoint.
  • Do the same step on the other side.
  • You can always adjust the scrolls with your quilling pen. Make a heart like a shape.
  • This will create a heart scroll.

Wave scroll:

  • Take a quilling strip and a quilling pin, roll from the one side of the strip and release that halfway.
  • Hold the strip in the middle and quil again, stop it after reaching the previous roll and release it.
  • Repeat these steps until the whole strip ends.
  • It will create a wave scroll.

Symmetrical V scroll:

  • Take a quilling strip, fold it into half from the middle.
  • Take a quilling pen, roll one side of the quilling strip inwards and release it halfway.
  • Quil the other side outwards, It should be a little closer to the midpoint of the strip than the other one.
  • It will create a symmetrical V scroll.

Ring coil:

  • Take a quilling pen and a quilling strip, use the back of the quilling pen.
  • Take the strip and apply some glue on the tip of it and attach it properly.
  • Bind the quilling strip around the quilling pen.
  • After it is done, remove the Quilling pen and give it a round ring-like shape.
  • Apply glue at the end of it and seal it.
  • This will make a ring coil.
