Basic Shapes – Part IV

Paper quilling is a form of art that is done by cutting paper into long thin strips, then the paper strips are formed in different shapes by rolling and pinching the pieces, then adding glue to the shapes together and that will make very decorative art. Paper quilling is often used for decorating cards, gift boxes, gift bags, picture frames, or making 3D stand-alone art pieces, which will make everybody in wonder. One of the benefits of doing this is often the expansion of concentration. You can do this to calm your mind and deduct stress. Today you are going to make some of the important shapes which are required for quilling. So, follow the process, note the names, and Let’s begin!

How to Make Basic Shapes of Quilling

Materials:

  • Quilling pen.
  • Circle sizer.
  • Quilling strips.
  • Craft Glue.

Procedure:

Star:

  • Take a quilling strip and a quilling pen, roll the strip into the quilling pen.
  • Pull off the coil after rolling it.
  • Take a circle sizer, put the coil into a middle shape circle and then roll it with your hands.
  • Apply glue at the end of the strip to properly secure it.
  • Take the coil, pinch it on a side, and two pinches on the side of this pinch side.
  • Give two more pinches from the equal distance of the previous.
  • This will give five pinch sides which will make a star shape.
  • Use the paper quilling after pinching the sides, which will give it more shape.
  • Your star is ready!

Pentagon/ House:

  • Take a quilling strip and a quilling pen, roll the strip into the quilling pen.
  • Pull off the coil after rolling it.
  • Take a circle sizer, put the coil into a middle shape circle and then roll it with your hands.
  • Apply glue at the end of the strip to properly secure it.
  • Take the coil, pinch one side of it and then pinch two more sides in the bottom. Give it a triangle shape.
  • Pinch two more sides in between the point you made previously at the top of the coil.
  • Use the paper quilling after pinching the sides properly, which will give it more shape.
  • The shape formed is called a Pentagon or House shape!

Oval:

  • Take a quilling strip and a quilling pen, roll the strip into the quilling pen.
  • Pull off the coil after rolling it.
  • Take a circle sizer, put the coil into a middle shape circle and then roll it with your hands.
  • Apply glue at the end of the strip to properly secure it.
  • Take the coil, place it in your thumb and index finger and pinch it to make sure the centre will be in the middle.
  • Push it in a circular motion with your fingers.
  • It will make an Oval shape!

Egg:

  • Take a quilling strip and a quilling pen, roll the strip into the quilling pen.
  • Pull off the coil after rolling it.
  • Take a circle sizer, put the coil into a middle shape circle and then roll it with your hands.
  • Apply glue at the end of the strip to properly secure it.
  • Take the coil, place it in your thumb and index finger and pinch it.
  • Pull the centre of the coil in the bottom.
  • Give it in a circular motion with your fingers from the top part to the bottom.
  • It will make an Egg shape!

Hexagon:

  • Take a  longer quilling strip and a quilling pen, roll the strip.
  • Take a circle sizer, put the coil into a bigger shape circle and then roll it with your hands.
  • Apply glue at the end of the strip to properly secure it.
  • Take the coil, Pinch one side of it and another of its opposite.
  •  Daignary pinch two more sides. Give it a rectangular shape.
  • After that, pinch two more sides of the longer side of the rectangle.
  • Use the paper quilling after pinching the sides properly, which will give it more shape.
  • It will make a Hexagon shape.

Double colour coil:

  • Take a big width marker and paper strip, bind the paper strip around it. Before binding makes sure to secure it with glue by attaching it to the marker.
  • Pull out the strip and secure its end with glue. It must look like a ring.
  • After this ring coil is ready, apply glue inside it and spread them with your fingers.
  • Take a new quilling strip and a quilling pen, roll the strip into the quilling pen.
  • Pull off the coil after rolling it.
  • Put in the ring coil you previously made.
  • Apply glue at the end of the strip to properly secure it.
  • It will make a shape called a Double colour coil.

Double colour teardrop:

  • Take a big width marker and paper strip, bind the paper strip around it. Before binding makes sure to secure it with glue by attaching it to the marker.
  • Pull out the strip and secure its end with glue. It must look like a ring.
  • After this ring coil is ready, apply glue inside it and spread them with your fingers.
  • Take a new quilling strip and a quilling pen, roll the strip into the quilling pen.
  • Pull off the coil after rolling it.
  • Put in the ring coil you previously made.
  • Hold the coil, pull the centre of it downwards and pinch on the top.
  • It will look like a teardrop shape, but the shape formed is called Double colour teardrop.

Half circle:

  • Take a quilling strip and a quilling pen, roll the strip into the quilling pen.
  • Pull off the coil after rolling it.
  • Take a circle sizer, put the coil into a middle shape circle and then roll it with your hands.
  • Apply glue at the end of the strip to properly secure it.
  • Take the coil, slowly pinch in on one side and then pinch one more side by adjusting the previous side.
  • This shape will be called a Half circle.

These are some basic shapes of quilling. Follow them and apply them to your work!
